Will the dog bark?

Chuck Poochigian is running for Attorney General, I wonder what that means to him? Apparently it means he cares about identity theft. The State Senator has taken a page (or two) from Arnold Schwarzenegger's book (no surprise.) The Arnold ran an education initiative and ran for Governor. That tactic was a tear sheet from Pete Wilson's playbook when his consultants ran statewide initiatives for fun and profit. Now it's Pooch's turn. to run a ballot initiative or are his consultants running him?

The Sacramento Bee writes "Matt Rexroad, who is managing the identity-theft ballot campaign said there won't be much legwork needed to sell the idea to the public. "This doesn't even require much of a campaign," he said." In Martha Stewart's lexicon, is that a good thing?

Rexroad, a former Marine, is a bit under the gun, shall we say? Rexroad's firm, Meridian Pacific, the architect of last year's amazing incumbent retention election in the Assembly (Republicans held just as many seats going in and coming out), is consulting for Chuck Poochigian. But the Sacramento News and Review tells us: "Now PG&E is accusing Meridian Pacific of unethical behavior. According to a letter from PG&E to SSJID officials, an unnamed Meridian Pacific employee used a laptop computer last week to access the district's wireless network while attending a public meeting at the SSJID's offices."

SSJID stands for the South San Joaquin Irrigation District, clearly not as powerful a regulatory agency as the California Department of Justice. But if this suspected electronic hacking job had been directed at the Cal DOJ, what would Poochigian do in his desired role as Attorney General?
Anthony York of Capitol Weekly and our favorite daily email, The Roundup, wrote "It's part CSI, part Twilight Zone. A PR firm says it has done nothing wrong, only to be accused by their client of corporate espionage. Attorneys are brought in, the FBI is called and computer forensic experts arrive to hack suspect laptops."

Perhaps Senator Poochigian IS worried about losing his identity in a high-tech electronic heist. But will he take aim at the consultants accused of corporate espionage? Is stealing intellectual property of a governmental agency not the same as stealing my identity? If he wins, how will he regulate the consultants who allegedly defrauded a public utility and the people? Who will Senator Poochigian protect?

    DrDora:

    1) I wanted to let you know that you (whom I presume to be "Berkeley Bear") have been banned from OC Blog for egregiously comment spamming our blog). Which is about what I'd expect from someone who...

    2) Defames a competing consulting firm without being in possesion of the facts at hand. I saw the memo they distributed about the SSJID incident. SSJID had an unsecured wireless network -- which is simple to password protect. The millions of ordinary citizens with home WiFi manage to do it.

And since when did public documents at an irrigation district become classified material?

What a bunch of hooey... trashing a competing firm??? That's all you've got for Dr. Dora??? Of course she's going to comment on this stuff. She's got a PHD in Public Administration... stealing the intellectual property that taxpayers paid IS NOT fair game for ANY consultant!

She has a PhD in Public Administration? WOW. Well, in that case I take it all back!

Thank you for letting me know that having a PhD in Public Administration makes it OK for you to promote your new blog by polluting other blogs with comment spam.

And thank you for letting me know that public documents are intellectual property that are off limits to the publci that paid for them.

BTW -- how long did it take DrDora to call PG & E and pitch her firm after she heard they'd fired MeridianPacific?

  • At 4:29 PM, Anonymous Merced Girl said…

Why would she pitch PG& E... she works for the billionaire in LA... who needs the approval of a bunch of desperate boys that coul'dn't clear an ethics hurdle>????

Last time I checked... its a free country... and she's free to say what she wants.

Okay folks... back to your corners... As fellow Republicans... we're allowed to disagree on actions/choices - and say so. No need to fuel the raging fires....

Did I say Dora wasn't free to say what she pleases?

When debating, it is helpful to respond to what the other person is saying.

Geez... Mr. OC is awfully sensitive about substance. At least Dr. Dora isn't an apologist for the corrupt, or allegedly corrupt. And if Meridian Pacific was unfairly characterized by the news media - which DOES happen - I am willing to bet that Dr. Dora will set the record straight.

Plus... Jubal... she does raise a good point. Does Poochigian have what it takes to BE Attorney General? Hello... all he's ever done is patronage for Pete Wilson and small-time private practice. What are Poochigian's credentials for Law & Order, other than he likes cops?

Jubal, how can they be public documents if they're on a private network?

Your logic is foggy at best...

Maybe that same spirit will begin animating your blog -- because the comments will tend emulate the tones set by those doing the blogging.

Hopefully this blog will evolve into something more than DrDora settling scores with other consultants.

Meridan Pacific circulated a memo summarizing the findings of computer forensics firm they hired, as well as the local media stories on their findings.

Jubal, how can they be public documents if they're on a private network? Your logic is foggy at best...

It wasn't a private network -- it was the open, public wireless network of a public agency. Your grasp of facts, balboa, is tenuous at best.

Geez... Mr. OC is awfully sensitive about substance.

Yes, I do care about substance. Guilty as charged.

Plus... Jubal... she does raise a good point. Does Poochigian have what it takes to BE Attorney General?

Whether or not Poochigian is qualified to be attorney general is a necessary topic for discussion. It's too bad DrDora doesn't bother to discuss it and instead uses it as a segue for bashing another consulting firm.

Does DrDora have a client in this race?

No -- and I'm still trying to figure out what yours are.

Jubal... Do you have a client in the race? Frankly, Poochigian doesn't seem like a very solid candidate. Hopefully the Meridian guys sent Dr Dora a clarification of their position. Becuase if they were painted as crooks when they aren't - then that should be cleared up.

I just don't understand why you are so aggresive & hostile toward women.

What on earth are you talking about? I criticize Dora and that makes me hostile toward women?

I'm not a political consultant, so no -- I don't have a client in this race.

And you still haven't answered the question.

NOT A CHANGE OF TUNE. Just re-stating the obvious.

I don't have any way of knowing whether Dr Dora has a client in any race. Last thing I heard was at the CRP thing a couple of weeks ago... she was still working for that guy in LA & was nowhere to be found

Greetings to Jabal, Merced Girl and whomever else... To clear things up - Yes, we received a response from Meridian Pacific -- Dr. Dora is reading the memo and will post a new blog sometime this evening.... I have not yet read the memo - so I won't characterize it.

Keep the comments coming! Here at Rose Colored Politics, we enjoy the rapier wit of all God's creatures!
